Factory Seconds - What's the deal?

What is meant by 'Factory Seconds'? 

The term can be confusing and can carry a stigma, or pre-conception that is sometimes more negative than it needs to be.  

At the core - 'Factory Seconds' means a product that has come from the manufacturer but is deemed unsuitable for sale through a normal retail channel, or sellable as a Brand New' product. 

What's wrong with them? 

The presentation and condition of our factory seconds vary drastically.  Some seconds are from cancelled orders - made for a customer who cancelled an order, or defaulted on payment.  These are usually in perfect condition, with no discernible defects or damage. 

Some seconds may come from a batch of doors where a machine has been set up incorrectly, or has failed mid-run.  This can manifest as defects in routing, incorrect handle or hinge offsets, or de-lamination of some of the timber layers.  

Also, some doors are damaged at the factory, from handling / freight,  or did not pass final QC checks.

Where do our seconds come from?

Our factory seconds, come from many different sources.  In general, we never know precisely why a product has been classed as seconds from the factory.  There are often clues left behind though, and we take great care inspecting highlighting any defects or damage evident in the doors.

What are the risk of buying seconds?

It is important to understand what buying factory seconds entails.  Factory seconds are supplied as is, with no warranty or guarantee that would normally be offered by the manufacturer.  This is important to understand as, if you discover a defect or malfunction with the product over time, you will not be covered by a warranty, entitled to a replacement or repair.

We strive diligently to identify and highlight all damage and defects present on our factory seconds.  However, some defects are undetectable, invisible, or concealed beneath layers or finishes. This is one of the risks inherent in buying seconds. 

In every product description, we include detailed condition specifics and detail photos of any damage or defects that we find - you are also invited to come to our warehouse and inspect for yourself!

For piece of mind, we have a generous returns policy.  If you discover (within a reasonable timeframe) that a product is not suitable to your needs, we will happily consider returns, exchanges or other option.
